LOOKING DOWN FROM THE ROADWAY PORT SODERICK SIDE OF MARINE DRIVE
YOU CAN SEE THE WRECKAGE OF A SHIP ON A VERY BARREN BEACH
I CANNOT FIND ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE NAME OF THE SHIP OR WHEN IT HAPPENED!
Hi Peter some info about the wreck off the Marine Drive. It is the steel motor vessel GRIETJE
she was 130 ft in length, beam 22.8 ft, and 296 gross tons.  She set sail on the 4th Feb 1963 from Garston
laden with 200 tons of coal, bound for Douglas, she encountered 60 mph south east gales
and in a blinding blizzard she eventually went aground at 4 am on the 5th Feb. All eight crew were saved
by coastguards, the rocket brigade and police. Hope this was of interest - Regards Paul Carney.
Thanks Paul for this very interesting information - Peter
